The drive
Digha is roughly 180 to 190 km from Kolkata, usually four to five hours by road. Leaving early avoids the heavy traffic leaving the city. On the way back, plan your return so that you reach Kolkata before late evening.
Places around Digha
Besides the main Digha beach, many visitors go to Old Digha, New Digha, Udaipur beach and the Marine Aquarium and Science Centre. A short drive away are Talsari on the Odisha border, Shankarpur fishing harbour, and the quieter beaches of Tajpur and Mandarmani.
Weekend or longer
Two days suit most families. With three or four days you can add Mandarmani and Tajpur, or the Chandaneswar temple. Tell us your dates and we will suggest a plan.
Best car for the trip
A sedan fits a small family. An SUV is better with children and beach luggage. Groups can book a Tempo Traveller.
